1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using CaseBoard, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.
2. Description of Service
CaseBoard is a web-based investigation database application that:
- Allows you to organise case information across data categories
- Stores your data in your personal Google Drive account
- Offers a free tier (1 case) and premium subscription ($7/month for unlimited cases)
- Provides premium features including case reports, AI case synthesis, and investigation guides
3. User Accounts and Authentication
Google Authentication:
- You must sign in with a Google account to use CaseBoard
- You are responsible for maintaining the security of your Google account
Account Responsibility:
- You are responsible for all activities that occur under your account
- You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorised access
4. Data Storage and Ownership
Your Data:
- All case data you create is YOUR property
- Your data is stored exclusively in YOUR Google Drive
- CaseBoard does not access, store, or control your case data on our servers, except that data passes through our proxy server in transit if you choose to use the AI Case Synthesis feature — see Section 8 for details
- You can delete your data at any time by deleting files from your Google Drive
Our Access:
- CaseBoard only accesses your Google Drive when you are actively signed in
- We use Google Drive API solely to save and retrieve your case files
- We cannot see or access your data outside of your active sessions
5. Subscription Terms
Free Tier:
- Includes 1 complete case with full functionality (you can delete and replace it at any time)
- Available indefinitely at no cost
- No credit card required
Premium Subscription ($7/month):
- Automatically renews monthly until cancelled
- Provides unlimited cases and premium features
- Billed through Stripe payment processing
- You can cancel anytime through the Stripe Customer Portal
Cancellation:
- Cancel anytime — no cancellation fees
- All cases apart from the first one added to CaseBoard will be locked (not deleted)
- Locked cases remain in your Google Drive indefinitely
- Locked cases are read-only and cannot be edited
- Re-subscribing unlocks all previously locked cases
- You can manually delete locked cases from your Google Drive at any time
No Refunds:
- All subscription payments are non-refundable
- Cancellation prevents future charges but does not refund the current billing period
6. Payment Processing
Third-Party Payment:
- All payments are processed by Stripe, Inc.
- You will be redirected to Stripe.com to enter payment information
- CaseBoard never sees or stores your credit card details
- We only store a Stripe customer ID to manage your subscription
Billing:
- Subscriptions are billed monthly
- You authorise Stripe to charge your payment method automatically
- Failed payments may result in subscription suspension
7. Acceptable Use Policy
You agree NOT to:
- Use the Service for any illegal purpose or to violate any laws
- Store content that infringes intellectual property rights
- Upload malicious code, viruses, or harmful software
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service or other users' data
- Use the Service to harass, abuse, or harm others
- Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or hack the Service
- Use automated systems to scrape or collect data from the Service
- Share your account credentials with others
Content Restrictions:
- You may not use CaseBoard to store illegal content
- You are solely responsible for the content you create and store
- We reserve the right to terminate accounts that violate this policy
8. Third-Party Services
CaseBoard integrates with:
- Google Drive — for data storage
- Stripe — for payment processing
- Cloudflare — for infrastructure
- Resend — for email delivery
- Anthropic — for the AI Case Synthesis feature (Premium). You provide your own Anthropic API key, billed to your own Anthropic account. Your case details are sent via CaseBoard's proxy server to Anthropic's API for analysis and are not stored or logged by CaseBoard.
Your use of these services is subject to their respective terms and policies.
9. Disclaimers and Limitations of Liability
DISCLAIMER:
- THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND
- WE MAKE NO WARRANTIES ABOUT ACCURACY, RELIABILITY, OR FITNESS FOR PURPOSE
- WE DO NOT GUARANTEE THE SERVICE WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS
LIMITATION OF LIABILITY:
- TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR:
- Any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages
- Loss of data, profits, or business opportunities
- Damages exceeding the amount you paid us in the last 12 months
- YOU ASSUME ALL RISK FOR YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE
Investigative Content:
- CaseBoard is a research and organisational tool
- We are not responsible for how you use information stored in the Service
- You are solely responsible for verifying accuracy of your research
- CaseBoard is not intended for official law enforcement use
10. Modifications to Service and Terms
Service Changes:
- We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time
- We may change pricing with 30 days' notice to active subscribers
Terms Changes:
- We may update these Terms at any time
- Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance
- Material changes will be indicated by updating the "Last Updated" date
